Stoney white carcass, once bursting with colour and life, resigns to a memory that once was. Coral bleaching happens when the sea water is too warm. It forces the corals to expel the algae living in their tissues causing them to turn completely white. However, when a coral bleaches, it is not dead. Corals can survive a bleaching event, but they are under more stress and subject to mortality.
