Light boxes 60cm/40cm
Part of the ‘Partum Subvertio’ body of work, ‘scans’ are a series of light boxes.
Despite a law banning sex selective abortion, the practice has been continuing over decades. As many as half a million female foetuses are aborted each year in the country. Portable ultrasound machines are taken to remote villages making sex determination a lucrative business.
The lightboxes represent scans of carnivorous plants carrying foetuses within them, thus portraying the ravaged womb.
